Give Us Liberty
My life calling is, in whatever small or big way God chooses, to be a part of leading a revolution of souls and society. I operate under the conviction that the best way to transform society at large is to introduce the individual souls in that society to the transforming truth of Jesus Christ.
My focus in unequivocally the kingdom of God. Jesus commanded us to "seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33
The kingdom of God is independent of The United States of America. Yet, as a son of liberty, oh how I have loved and still love our country.
Ultimate and eternal human freedom, peace and security are only found in Jesus. He said, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." (John 8:31) His word, the Bible, the eternal truth of God, gives true freedom.
I don't know that I would say that America has ever truly been a "Christian nation", but clearly many of our founding convictions as a society were built on the principles/truths found in Scripture. As a direct result of our country's adherence to a core set of these God-given truths (adherence on the individual citizen's level and the national policy level) we have benefited incalculably.
Biblical truth has led us to such convictions as:
- Every human life has intrinsic, not primarily utilitarian, value - we all, regardless of skill or wealth have value simply because we were created in the image of God.
- Every person also, because he/she bears God's thumb print, has immense potential to contribute to the greater good of humanity - in the right environment (freedom and reward for achievement) our citizens can problem-solve, invent and create technologies, goods, services, and solutions which would stagger the imagination of generations before. All of humanity is greatly served as this human potential is unleashed. God certainly delights in people serving other people.
- Every person also, because of his/her great potential, bears personal responsibility for his/her own welfare. Biblical principles such as "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." 2 Thess. 3:10, have helped create a thriving society. Our policy-makers, at least in the early days, understood that the role of government is simply to ensure an environment of opportunity within which people are able to thrive, not to provide for everyone.
- Our "rights" are endowed by God, not by government, and therefore we should carry an attitude of gratitude, not entitlement.
As I watched the vote last night based on opposite convictions (convictions such as everyone is entitled, has a right, to health care provided by the government - and the role of the government is to fully take care of the citizens) two thoughts came to me.
One was a quote from a Star Wars movie. In Revenge of the Sith, while the senate is applauding their vote to give dictatorial powers to one man, the character Padme says, "So this is how liberty dies . . .with thunderous applause." I felt last night that I was watching liberty suffer a mortal wound.
The second was how badly the revolution of the gospel is needed. Make no mistake, my primary goal isn't to preserve our way of life as Americans in the sense of material prosperity or comfort. In my view those are luxuries which have come to us as a result of living by truth principles. They are to be enjoyed with gratitude, not sought out with greed. My goal would be to preserve a society within which human potential is free to thrive to the fullest. I believe God delights to see this in action. I believe the crown jewel of His creation, people, are served best in this type of societal environment. Most significantly in my view, this type of environment serves powerfully as a platform to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Out of our country great missional influence has spread across the globe over the last century. Out of our free and flourishing society the message of ultimate freedom has resounded with epic power around the globe. This is what is worth preserving about America to me. Through America freedom rings.
So, what do JFMen (Jesus Following Men) in our day do to bring about the needed revolution? Two things.
First, influence the macro society however God leads you to. We need truth influence in every arena: political, educational, entertainment, media etc...
Second, and more importantly, influence on the micro. We need every Christian to lead someone to Jesus, to truth, to ultimate freedom. This movement, one soul at time, over time, will transform the society we leave to our children and grandchildren. Pray, ask God to use you to bring someone to Himself. He will! Love and serve those around you (friends) intentionally for Christ. Speak! Share your story and the simple gospel message with them. Invite them to an environment where they will hear it.
Have you seen enough yet? Has enough damage to truth been inflicted on us yet to get you motivated to be a revolutionary? Let's go! Now! For Jesus! For truth! For people! For Liberty!
Great thought-provoking thoughts that are truly motivating and require all Christians to take action to return our country to its Christain foundation - a foundation based on "In God We Trust" that made our country great. As a result of yesterdays' vote in Congress our country as we know it, is now hanging by a thread. We have to decide what we can do with that thread to get our country back. It will take a Christian revolution of great magnitude and the time to start is NOW!!!!

You are 100% on the mark. Trying to save our country through politics is like trying to bail a sinking boat by drilling a hole in the bottom.
I have been observing politics a long time, and I am dismayed by Christians who think any political party is "the answer". IMHO, when exercising our Christian faith in the public arena becomes illegal, when Christians become felons for nothing more than publicly, respectfully, and peacefully sharing the Gospel of Jesus, it will be by the hands of secularist (Rockefeller) Republicans, and only because they beat the Democrats to the punch.
I look back at the 1st Great Awakening, and see where the Gospel was preached, and God's Holy Spirit spread it like wildfire. Souls all over the colonies were saved, and those saved lived, en masse, changed society and led the colonies to freedom and the greatest nation with which God has graced this world.
I would love to see Christians transcend denomination and earnestly humble themselves before God, confess their sins, turn from those sins, and beg our Lord and God to send another Great Awakening to this nation. Not for our benefit, nor for our glory, but that He would be glorified by all the saved souls, the resultant changed lives, and the Light of Christ once again shining from this city on a hill that He and He alone has created.
I wonder if we can find such men.

These quotes from Stonewall Jackson are something all Christian men should consider and adopt to give us courage to do what is right:
(Speaking to Captain John D. Imboden) "Captain, my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me." He added, after a pause, looking me full in the face: "That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave"
and this one when we are tempted:
"What is life without honor? Degradation is worse than death."

3/22/10:
we are the most christian group of people in the entire world(bible belt). What happened in Washington yesterday was exactly why the South seceded in the 1800's This war was fought over the right of the local people to govern themselves versus a centralist government by the few and the powerful. The South wanted less government, less taxes, independence, and decisions made at the local level where people have control. The South stood on the principles of the Southerner Thomas Jefferson, who in the Declaration of Independence, Stated:"governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government." In other words, the people should control the government, not the government controlling the people.Interesting correlation, isn't it?

An association of men who will not quarrel with one another is a thing which has never yet existed, from the greatest confederacy of nations down to a town meeting or a vestry. Thomas Jefferson
AS I read this quote I realized that it is time for our congressmen, including democrats and republicans, to work towards a common goal of an UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. We as Christians need to pray that God's will be done.
